IPL6: Mumbai thrash Daredevils by 44 runs

Mumbai Indians posted the highest total of IPL6 to rout Delhi Daredevils by 44 runs in Match 10 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

It was the third consecutive defeat for the Delhi side.

Chasing a target of 210, Daredevils were off to a horrible start losing Unmukht Chand off the first ball from Harbhajan with Ponting taking a brilliant catch.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardene also followed him back to the pavilion in the third over.

David Warner (61) and Manpreet Juneja (49) kept Daredevils in the hunt with an 82-run stand for the third wicket in eight overs.

But with the asking rate climbing as they faced a steep target, they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Earlier, blazing half centuries by Dinesh Karthik (86) and Rohit Sharma (74 not out) powered Mumbai Indians to 209 for five after opting to bat first.

It was a magnificent recovery from the hosts who lost batting legends Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar with just one on the board before going on to post the highest total in IPL6.

Karthik and Sharma flayed the Daredevils attack during a 133-run stand for the third wicket in less than 13 overs.

Karthik's 48-ball 86 contained 14 fours and two sixes while Sharma was unbeaten on 74 off 50 balls.

Mumbai continued the momentum with Rayudu's slamming 24 with two sixes and two boundaries after Pollard's soft dismissal.

Sharma continued the onslaught from the other end slamming four and five sixes, including three in the last over from Nehra whose two wickets cost 49.

Morkel claimed one for 43 and Pathan one for 37.

Yadav had none for 20 and Nadeem none for 26 with Jeewan Mendis giving 20 in two overs.

Morkel who hammered three consecutive boundaries off Johnson in the 19th over, finished the game with a defiant six off Pollard in the final ball of the match.

Johnson has struck with a slower to dismiss the dangerous Warner who checked his shot to chip it to Rayudu in the deep.

Mumbai have struck another deadly blow removing Warner in the 11th over after he added 82 runs in eight overs with Juneja.

DD have recovered after a disastrous start reaching 84-2 at the halfway stage thanks to a belligerent half century from Warner during a third wicket stand with Juneja.

Warner cuts Pollard for a boundary to bring up his eighth IPL fifty off 34 balls.

Warner has blasted Pollard straight down the ground for his third six in the 10th over.

Juneja hits a boundary off Harbhajan with a switch hit to third man region.

The third wicket partnership between Warner and Juneja comes off 35 balls.

Ojha has been smacked for a six over midwicket by Warner in his first over.

Juneja slams three boundaries off Johnson in the fifth over.

Juneja also gets into the act hitting consecutive boundaries off Johnson punching him through mid-off and clipping to fine leg.

Warner has hit the first six of the DD innings thumping Harbhajan over long-on into the stands.

Harbhajan back into the attack with DD struggling at 17-2 after three overs.

Juneja opens his account with a boundary off the first ball he faced from Johnson.

Johnson has struck a body blow for DD claiming Mahela caught behind off Karthik who is wearing the Purple Cap for being the leading run getter in IPL6.

Nehra goes for 20 in the final over with Sharma ending the Mumbai innings in style by blasting a third six of the last ball over square leg.

Sharma smashes consecutive sixes off Nehra over extra cover and midwicket to bring up the 200 of the Mumbai innings.

Rayudu's cameo of 24 off just eight balls comes to an end skying a return catch to Nehra

Rayudu has clobbered four consecutive boundaries off Pathan, including two towering sixes, in the 19th over which goes for 22.

Nehra concedes sevens runs and takes the wicket of Pollard in the 18th over though failing to prevent Mumbai Indians from surpassing the highest total in IPL6.

Daredevils get a luck break as Pollard lofts to Nadeem at extra cover off Nehra in the 18th over.

Sharma completes his half century off 42 balls as Morkel goes for 11 in the 17th over with Pollard and Sharma smacking boundaries.

Pollard has flicked Yadav for a six in the 16th over to make his intentions clear.

What a wonderful recovery from Mumbai reaching 80-2 at the halfway stage after losing Ponting and Tendulkar with just one run on the board.

Yadav goes for 16 in his second over as Karthik hits three boundaries, twice through midwicket and a flick to square leg.

Karthik has played another terrific knock for Mumbai completing his fifty off just 29 balls.

Spin has been introduced in the eighth over but Karthik greets left arm spinner Nadeem by despatching him to third man boundary with a deft jab.

Boundaries are coming thick and fast for Mumbai with young Indian guns Karthik and Sharma flaying the Delhi attack.

Mumbai have won the toss and elected to bat first.

The return of pace spearheads Morne Morkel (Delhi Daredevils) and Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians) will be the highlight of Match 10 of IPL6 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The 28-year old South African will be looking for a repeat of his last season’s performance when he picked up 25 wickets.

Mumbai Indians are likely to be boosted by the arrival of the IPL’s leading wicket-taker Lasith Malinga, who had missed the initial two matches owing to a back injury.
