IPL6: Punjab thrash Pune by 8 wickets

Kings XI Punjab routed Pune Warriors India by eight wickets in Game 6 of IPL6 at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune on Sunday.

Chasing a small target of 100, Punjab were home with nearly eight overs to spare with 19 year-old Manan Vohra leading the way with an enterprising unbeaten knock of 43 off 28 balls which was spiced with seven boundaries.

Another teenager Mandeep Singh smashed 31 off 26 balls with four boundaries adding 58 runs for the second wicket with Vohra.

Skipper Gilchrist (15) gave them the ideal start smashing two boundaries and six before holing out Samuels off Mathews.

But it was Vohra who set the match alight smashing four consecutive boundaries off one over from Dinda as Punjab raced to victory.

Pune Warriors India opting to bat first never recovered after losing Manish Pandey in the first over.

They caved in to the disciplined bowling and some brilliant fielding with Abhishek Nayar hitting 25 not out to bring some respectability to their innings.

KINGS XI PUNJAB INNINGS

David Hussey hit the winning run being recalled after being caught by Suman off a no-ball off Marsh in the 12th over.

Punjab are winning in a canter with Hussey joining Vohra to deal in boundaries.

Sharma has struck bowling Mandeep Singh off an inside edge but it come it a little late with Punjab cruising to victory.

Mandeep Singh hits the 10th boundary of the Punjab innings slamming Marsh to midwicket after having been dropped by Dinda in the previous delivery.

Vohra is rocking for Punjab cracking four consecutive boundaries off Dinda in the fourth over which goes for 21 with Mandeep opening with a boundary.

Mathews strikes as Gilchrist holes to Samuels in the deep in the third over.

Runs are coming thick and fast for Punjab who seem to be in a hurry to get to their target as Mandeep Singh hammers his first boundary off Dinda.

Punjab are off to a flying start with skipper Gilchrist cracking two boundaries, including the first ball bowled by Bhuvneshwar, and flicking one over square leg with a vintage shot.

Pune Warriors face an uphill task defending a small total of 99.

Kings XI Punjab have restriced Pune Warriors to 99-9 in Game 6 of IPL6 at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune on Sunday.

Praveen Kumar and Azhar Mahmood claimed two wickets apiece as Pune Warriors caved in from the first over to a mix of inept batting, discplined bowling and some brilliant fielding.

Abhishek Nayar was their top scorer remaining unbeaten on 25 off 26 balls hitting three boundaries.

Pune never recovered after Kumar sent Manish Pandey's stumps cartwheeling in the first over.

Uthappa made 19 before being bowling by a beauty from Chawla while Taylor fell to a brilliant catch from Gurkeerat Singh to dash Pune's hopes of making a decent total.

Bhuvneshwar is bowled by a slower delivery from Mahmood whom he hit for a boundary the previous ball.

Nayar has slammed Harris to long on for his second boundary in the 19th over as Pune make a desperate bid to reach the three-figure mark.

Marsh is bowled off an inside edge first ball by Harris following a strategic time-out as Pune lose their seventh wicket in the 17th over.

Marsh has hit the first six of the match clobbering Kumar over midwicket in the 16th over and follows it up with a boundary.

Nayar has swept Chawla to square leg for his first boundary in the 15th over.

Gurkeerat Singh has taken a brilliant catch on the fine leg boundary to dismiss Taylor as Kumar takes his second wicket.

Taylor has square cut Awana for his first boundary in the 12th over as Pune attempt to launch a counter attack to salvage their innings.

Pune Warriors are reeling at 38-5 after 10 overs with Taylor and Nayar in the middle.

Mathews has slapped Awana back past the bowler for his first boundary and is beaten next ball getting a faint edge to be caught behind by Gilchrist.

The procession continues as Pune must be rueing their decision to bat first.

Pune Warriors are falling like nine pins with leg spinner Chawla castling Uthappa with the last delivery of his first over.

Suman also gets into the act steering Harris past slip for a boundary in the fourth over.

Uthappa is on the offensive nearly  hitting a six off Kumar.

Uthappa hits the first boundary of the match in the third over chipping Kumar with superb timing to midwicket.

Pune Warriors skipper Angelo Mathews has won the toss and elected to bat first against Kings XI Punjab. 

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will come out for the first time when they take Pune Warriors India (PWI) in Game 6 of IPL6 at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune on Sunday.

Pune will be aiming to bounce back after losing their first match to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 22 runs.

Punjab led by veteran Adam Gilchrist will be without Shaun Marsh but have the services of David Hussey.

Pune will be buoyed by the fact that they have beaten Punjab in three of the four meetings.

Led by Sri Lanka's Test and ODI captain Angelo Mathews, Pune will be missing the servies of star India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh who has been ruled out with a back strain.

T Suman has replaced Yuvraj in the playing XI for Pune. Taylor, Samuels and Mitchell Marsh are the overseas players retained from the last game.

Azhar Mahmood, Ryan Harris, David Hussey are the other three overseas players for Punjab.
