Thrissur Dynamites Yogi Group, Thumbay Kasargod Leopards, Capital Kochi Diwans and Concord Ventures Palakkad Harvestors registered victories in their KPL Dubai matches held at the ICC Global Cricket Academy grounds on Friday night.
The tournament is being held under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council.
Palakkad, a new team in KPL, stunned last season's semi-finalists Space-CSS Aleppey Ripples by 64 runs.
Palakkad posted a good total of 147 for seven in 20 overs after batting first. Kausalya played a rapid-fire knock of 56 from 28 balls, including six fours and one six.
Malintha smashed a 36-ball 45 with the help of five fours and one six. Bilal chipped in with an useful 27 off 25 balls.
Dilhara bagged two wickets for 38 runs from his four overs, while Shanil, Mubasir, Chirag and Anish picked up one wicket each.
While chasing, Babar gave victory hopes to Alleppy by cracking 49 off just 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.
Hareesh fell for 12 off 18 balls as Alleppy's middle order collapsed in front of the determined effort from Palakkad bowlers.
In another match between new KPL teams, Kochi clinched a thriller, beating Globalink Weststar Shipping Pathanamthitta Rajas by two runs.
When Kochi made 113 for nine in their 20 overs after batting first, Pathanamthitta sensed their chances for an easy victory. But a disciplined bowling effort from Kochi helped them open their account in the Twenty20 tournament.
Arun was Kochi's top scorer with 22 runs, while Fahad added 21 runs and their contribution helped the team winning the low-scoring thriller.
Pathanamthitta opener Heman top scored with 29 but he lacked support at the other end as the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Jivan was the pick of Kochi bowlers, grabbing two for 18 from 3.2 overs.
Pathanamthitta were bowled out for 111 with three balls remaining.
On the other hand, the match between Thrissur and Malappuram was a high-scoring one, which saw a 54-ball 90 from Shaiman Anwar for the Yogi group sponsored team.
He smashed 12 fours and one six before falling short of a century by 10 runs. Swapnil chipped in with 22, while Shazad scored 26 and Wasim Bari remained not out on 22 as Thrissur went on to score 190 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Pevez and Amir Rashi bagged two wickets each.
Malappuram gave a good reply in their chase through their opener Asif, who slammed 68 off 36 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes.
Amir gave him good company, scoring 50 off 47, but once both of them fell, Thrissur regained control and went on to win the match convincingly. Malappuram finished their innings with a total of 171 for eight in their 20 overs.
In the next match, Kasargod scored an emphatic 46-run victory over Calicut Zamorins Supported by du.
Sayeed Maqsood's unbeaten 58 off 51 balls helped Kasargod score 126 for seven in their 20 overs. Naeem gave him good company, smashing a 23-ball 38, including four boundaries and two sixes.
Calicut got a good opening with Ahmed scoring 19 and Qais 25. Later Salman too chipped in with 25, but the rest of the batsmen failed to contribute as they were bowled out for 104 in 15.2 overs.
Ali returned with superb figures of three for 13 from his three overs. Sandeep and Aditya bagged two wickets each.
