The match has been called off without a ball being bowled because of incessant rain.

There is a steady downpour and chances of play look very bleak although the ground is fully covered.

Rain has delayed the toss for the first Twenty20 international between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Both sides were hoping for drier wather after the preceding three-match ODI series was affected by rain.

The series was shared 1-1.

Off-spinning all-rounder Ramith Rambukwella and leg-spinner Seekkuge Prasanna have been named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the two Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand.

Rambukwella, 22, had been selected in the national squad during the Bangladesh series in March, but did not get a match.

Prasanna, however, has played a Test and nine ODIs, the most recent in March 2012.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne, middle-order batsman Ashan Priyanjan and spinner Rangana Herath were omitted from the squad, having been with the team for the ODI series.
