Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI in Dubai: Lanka win cliffhanger to level series

Sri Lanka won a cliffhanger against Pakistan in the second day-night one-day international at Dubai International Stadium on Friday to level the series 1-1.

Chasing a challenging target of 285, Sri Lanka survived some tense moment to make 287-8 in 49.4 overs.

Sri Lanka were given a sound start by Kusal Perera (16) and Dilshan (40) but were on the backfoot after both openers were run out.

Sangakkara (58) and Chandimal (44) repaired the damage with a 94-run stand for the third wicket.

Mathews took charge thereafter sharing in a 57-run stand for the sixth wicket with Kulasekera who smashed three boundaries and two sixes in a 26-ball 32.

Senanayake hit the winning runs after skipper Mathews fell for 47 made off 44 balls with Sri Lanka on the brink of victory in the last over.

Junaid Khan finished with best figures of three for 52 while Afridi claimed two for 46.

SRI LANKA INNINGS

Senanayake steers Afridi to the third man boundary as Sri Lanka win by two wickets and two balls to spare.

Afridi does the trick grabbing the wicket of Mathews who hits straight to Shehzad at short midwicket. SL 281-8 in 49.1 overs.

Mathews slams a boundary off Junaid to bring Sri Lanka in sight of victory. SL 281-7 in 49 overs need four off the last over to bowled by Afridi with Mathews on strike on 47.

Sri Lanka are content to do it singles. SL 269-7 in 48 overs need 16 off 12 balls with Junaid to bowl the penultimate over.

Ajmal bowls another superb over but Sri Lanka need just 21 from 18 balls. SL 264-7 in 47 overs.

Sri Lanka need 26 from 24 balls with Karunaratne glancing Bhatti to the fine leg fence. SL 259-7 in 46 overs.

Ajmal bowls a tight over. Sri Lanka are 244-7 in 45 overs needing 41 off 30 balls.

Sri Lanka need 44 from 36 balls with three wickets in hand.

Junaid strikes again rattling the stumps of Prasanna. SL 237-7 in 43.3 overs.

Prasanna slams Afridi over extra cover for a boundary. Sri Lanka need 49 from 42 balls.

Afridi strikes as Kulasekera is stumped after adding 57 runs in 6.5 overs with Mathews. SL 230-6 in 42.3 overs.

Sri Lanka require 58 from 48 balls as Tanvir goes for 19 in the 42nd over.

Kulasekera is on fire finding the boundary by finding the gap at third man and then clobbering a free hit from Tanvir for a six over midwicket.

Kulasekera slams Afridi inside out over extra cover for a boundary. Sri Lanka need 77 off 54 balls.

Mathews and Kulasekera smash a boundary apiece off Tanvir as Sri Lanka enter the home stretch requiring 85 off 60 balls with five wickets in hand.

Kulasekera smashes a six off Junaid. SL 188-5 in 38 overs.

Double strike by Junaid producing a ripper to rattle the stumps of Thisara. SL 173-5 in 35.4 overs.

Sri Lanka are in trouble now as Chandimal departs beaten by an in dipper from Junaid. SL 168-4 in 33.4 overs.

Ajmal strikes a major blow breaking a 94-run partnership as Sangakkara drags the balls onto his stumps. SL 159-3 in 31.5 overs.

Sri Lanka are cruising requiring 132 off 20 overs.

Sangakkara cracks a boundary off Ajmal. SL 153-2 in 30 overs.

Sangakkara completes his 82nd ODI half century off 54 balls.

Sangakkara pulls Afridi to the backward square leg fence. SL 144-2 in 28 overs.

Sangakkara chips Ajmal over cover for a boundary. SL 134-2 in 27 overs.

The 50-run partnership between Sangakkara and Chandimal comes off 58 balls. SL 122-2 in 25 overs.

Chandimal gets into the act taking on Afridi and sweeping him for a six over midwicket. SL 114-2 in 24 overs.

Sangakkara passes 12,000 runs in ODIs by taking a couple off Afridi.

Sangakkara survives a close call for a caught behind which was unsuccessfully reviewed by Pakistan before slamming Bhatti for a six over fine leg. SL 103-2 in 23 overs.

Bhatti bowls a maiden to Chandimal as Pakistan tighten the screws. SL 76-2 in 19 overs.

Sri Lanka lose the in-form Dilshan who is run out by a direct hit from midwicket as his bat gets stuck while trying to ground it. SL 65-2 in 14.3 overs.

TM Dilshan run out 40 (48b 6x4 0x6)

Sangakkara gets his first boundary with a scorching drive through midwicket off Bhatti. SL 62-1 in 13 overs.

Dilshan is on song hammering the first two deliveries from Ajmal to the fence but Sri Lanka suffer a major blow as Kusal is run out by a direct hit from Bhatti responding to a call by his partner for a quick single. SL 49-1 in 8.3 overs.

Kusal Perera run out 16 (24b 2x4 0x6)

Dilshan attacks Hafeez slamming a couple of boundaries past square leg and straight down the ground on the off. SL 38-0 in 7 overs.

Kusal gets cracking with a couple of boundaries off Tanvir on either side of the wicket. SL 27-0 n 6 overs.

Dilshan cuts Tanvir through cover point for his second boundary. SL 16-0 in 4 overs.

Dilshan hits the first boundary of the innings sweeping Hafeez past square leg. SL 11-0 in 3 overs.

There is another delay caused by the sightscreen as Tanvir prepares to bowl from the other end.

Hafeez opens the attack as Sri Lanka begin their run chase. SL 3-0 in 1 over.

PAKISTAN INNINGS

Pakistan powered by a sedate century from Ahmed Shehzad (124) and a fluent unbeaten half century by skipper Misbah ul Haq (59 off 62 balls) made a challenging 284-4 in 50 overs.

Shehzad anchored the innings making 124 off 140 balls with just eight boundaries sharing in a 105-run stand for the fourth wicket with Misbah.

Afridi slammed a couple of sixes in his 15-ball unbeaten 32 to boost their final tally.

Hafeez chipped in with 32 during a 76-run for the second wicket with Shehzad.

Malinga was the most expensive Sri Lanka bowler going for 78 for the solitary wicket of Sharjeel.

Prasanna (10-0-45-1) and Senanayake (10-0-42-0) were more economical.

Afridi blasts a six over midwicket off Kulasekera followed by a boundary as Pakistan finish strongly to make 284-4 in 50 overs after being put into bat.

Malinga completes his spell with figures of 10-0-78-1. Pak 269-4 in 49 overs.

Malinga goes for 16 as Misbah flicking him to the backward square leg boundary and completes his 34th ODI half century of 53 balls with a couple. Pak 254-4 in 47 overs.

Afridi delights the crowd by hoisting Malinga for a six clearing the fielder at long-on.

Afridi arrives in the middle to a loud cheers from an expectant crowd who want to see some fireworks from him.

Kulasekera returns to trap Shehzad leg before. Pak 233-4 in 45.1 overs.

Shehzad dances down the track and slams Senanayake for another boundary. Pak 226-3 in 44 overs.

Malinga goes for 13 with Shehzad whipping him to midwicket for a boundary while Misbah goes one better clobbering him for a straight six. Pak 217-3 in 43 overs.

Shehzad is being treated after wincing in pain after being at the receiving end of a toe crusher from Malinga causing yet another hold up in the play.

Shehzad swings Malinga to backward square leg for a single to bring up his fourth ODI century which came off 121 balls and contained six boundaries.

Shehzad is on 99 as Pakistan reach 192-3 in 40 overs.

Misbah hits his first boundary driving Malinga to long-off and brings up the 50 partnership with Shehzad off 58 balls. Pak 181-3 in 38 overs.

Shehzad continues to dominate the bowling cracking Senanayake for another boundary through the covers. Pak 151-3 in 32 overs.

Shehzad slams Dilshan to the midwicket fence. Pak 141-3 in 30 overs.

Chandimal takes a superb running catch in the deep at long on as Maqsood miscues a lofted shot off Prasanna. Pak 128-3 in 28.2 overs.

Maqsood hits the first six of the match standing tall and slamming Prasanna over long-on. Pak 126-2 in 27 overs.

Shehzad completes his fifth ODI half century off 75 balls. Pak 103-2 in 24 overs.

Dilshan comes into the attack and his second ball is thumped over extra cover for a boundary by Shehzad. Pak 96-2 in 22 overs.

Hafeez is run out by a smart throw from Karunaratne as they attempt a second. Pak 84-2 in 20 overs.    

Mohammad Hafeez run out 32 (52b 3x4 0x6)

Shehzad and Hafeez get a couple of boundaries down the leg side in an over bowled by Thisara and Karunatne. Pak 82-1 iin 19 overs.

Spin introduced after the drinks interval as Senanayake comes into the attack. Pak 71-1 in 18 overs.

Shehzad (28) survives as Thisara claims a catch which television replays showed was not caught cleanly. Pak 66-1 in 17 overs.

Hafeez (16) survives as Prasanna fails to latch onto a return catch in his first over. Pak 48-1 in 12 overs.

Shehzad lofts Thisara over mid-off for a boundary as Pakistan reach 43-1 at the end of the Powerplay overs.

Hafeez slams Thisara through the covers for a boundary. Pak 34-1 in 8 overs.

Hafeez flicks Kulasekera to square leg for his first boundary. Pak 29-1 in 7 overs.

Malinga strikes early trapping Sharjeel leg before with his fourth delivery with Pakistan being unsuccessful with the decision review. Pak 8-1 in 1.4 overs.

Sharjeel flicks the first ball from Malinga to the square leg fence.

The match finally gets underway after a delay of nearly 30 minutes with Kulasekera bowling to Shehzad and bowls a wide first ball.

The Pakistan openers still have some problem with the sightscreen.

There will be no reduction in overs despite the delay.

The umpires and players are finally walking out after a 25-minute delay for the sightscreen to be fixed.

The match which was scheduled to start at 3pm local time has been delayed because a sightscreen is being repaired.

Sri Lanka have made two changes with Nuwan Kulasekera replacing Suranga Lakmal as expected while Lahiru Thirimanne suffered a freak ankle injury during warm-up. Dimuth Karunaratne has come in for Thirimanne.

Pakistan field an unchanged side.

Pakistan lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning a thriller in Sharjah by 11 runs on Wednesday.
