The Pakistan Cricket Board has criticized the report from an ICC task force set up to examine the state of the sport in the country, labeling it a "scholarly exercise" from people who failed to even visit Pakistan.

The report, which was submitted to the ICC's board meeting in Hong Kong last month, contained recommendations on the Pakistan government's role in the PCB and its selection committee.

The PCB issued a statement on Wednesday saying "the circumstances in Pakistan are unique and cricket administration requires and deserves government support without which international cricket may not be able to return to Pakistan."

The task force was formed in the wake of the 2009 attack in Lahore by terrorists that killed six policemen.
