Sri Lanka's star batsman Kumar Sangakkara is a doubt for the first Test against South Africa at Centurion starting on Thursday after he sustained an injury to the webbing between thumb and the middle finger on his right hand, The Island reported.

The injury required two stitches.

He sustained the injury while fielding during the three-day warm up game against South Africa Invitation XI and didn’t bat.

Sangakkara is the latest addition to the list of injured Sri Lankans. Four frontline fast bowlers and wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene are already in the injured list.

Fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep Fernando, who sustained a hamstring injury on the first day of the warm up game, will return home. The selectors will name his replacement only after watching the ongoing domestic tournament matches, the report added.

Sangakkara is world’s number one ranked batsman in Test cricket and previously has missed only one Test Match due to injury.
