The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has scored the biggest hit in its illustrious history with Guinness World Records, the world's leading authority on record-breaking achievements, recognising its feat of playing host to 200 one-day international matches, the most at one venue.

The announcement takes on added significance as the stadium is all spruced up to welcome the Pakistan and Sri Lanka teams for a Test Match starting from November 3,  which will be followed by an One Day International on  November 20.

Fondly refer to as the “oasis of cricket,” the stadium has been witness to stories of stunning exploits by the world’s leading players which have since become part of cricketing folklore.

From Javed Miandad’s last-ball six to Sachin Tendulkar’s assault on the Australian bowlers to Wasim Akram’s streak of hat-tricks to Mutthiah Muralitharan’s wicket haul, the golden moments galore.

Much like the landscape, cricket in Sharjah has also dramatically grown in size and popularity. And the Guinness World Records’ recognition only underlines the Emirate’s continued passion for the game.

“It truly is a great honour to be a part of the Guinness World Record files. It means a lot to us and we will keep doing our best to continue to add to the number over the time,” said Abdulrahman Bukhatir, the man behind the creation of this theater of unmatched cricket entertainment.

“The Guinness recognition is recognition for all those who contributed immensely to successfully staging matches. It’s an honour for the UAE and especially for fans, who are our biggest supporters.

“We look forward to their enthusiastic response as cricket returns to the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and with it the glory days.”
