Sri Lanka has recovered to 84-3 at stumps on the opening day of the second test after West Indies seamer Kemar Roach took two early wickets to help reduce to host to 34-3.

The match started two hours behind schedule and only eight deliveries were possible in the last session before bad light stopped play.

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat on Tuesday.

Roach bowled Tillakaratne Dilshan (4) with the score on 10 and had DilshanÕs fellow opener Tharanga Paranavitana caught by Dwayne Bravo for 16.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy then bowled Mahela Jayawardene.

But Sangakkara (25) and Thilan Samaraweera (26) combined to put on an unbroken 50-run stand to steady the Sri Lanka innings.
