Sri Lanka cricket coach out of danger after suffering cardiac ailment

Former Sri Lanka opening batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana is reported to be out of danger after suffering a cardiac ailment.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Colombo from Hambantota on Wednesday where the Sri Lanka 'A' team were playing the touring West Indies 'A', according to reports in Sri Lankan media.

Kaluwitharana, 44, is coach of the Sri Lanka 'A' team who beat the tourists by 10 wickets.

A dashing wicket keeper-batsman was a member of Sri Lanka's World Cup winning team in 1996, he entertained crowds with his swashbuckling style of batting in partnership with another Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya.

'Little Kalu' as he was adoringly called by cricket commentator Tony Greig, played 49 Tests and 189 ODIs for Sri Lanka.
