Tendulkar 200th Test India v West Indies: India in commanding position on Day 2

The hosts need another seven wickets to sweep series

India were in a commanding position and need another seven wickets to wrap the match as West Indies stare at another huge defeat in the second Test in Mumbai.

Centuries from Rohit Sharm and Cheteshwara Pujara and half tons from Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli put India in commanding position as they posted 495 in the first innings securing a lead of 313.

With a huge task on hand, West Indies were in deep trouble as they lost three wickets for 43 runs in the second innings when stumps were drwawn.


West Indies are completely off track here. Another wicket as Bravo returns to the hut. Windies 43-3 in 12.2 overs.

The night watchman for Windies did not work as Best is gone. Windies 28-2 in 9.4 overs.

The first wicket falls for Windies. Gayle is playing a rather subdued innings. WI 15-1 in 1 over.

K Powell c Mohammed Shami b Ashwin 9 (16b 0x4 0x6)

West Indies openers have a huge task cut out. Gayle needs to be there for a big knock if Windies are to make a match of this game. WI 6-0 in 1 over.


Cheteshwar Pujara (113) and Rohit Sharma (111) scored centuries as India piled on 495 all out in 108 overs.

India ensured they had a healthy 313 runs lead over West Indies in the first innings.

Earlier in the innings, Sachin Tendulkar (74), playing his last and 200th Test, and Virat Kohli (57) scored half centuries 

Shami holes one in the deep and India are all out for 495. Sharma remains unbeaten on 111.

Testing time for Sharma. He was watching Shami survive at the other end over quite frequently and he has been doing it successfully. Sharma needs five runs to get his second successive ton in Tests. Ind 469-9 in 102 overs.

Sharma is batting on 86 as India reach 458 for nine in 100 overs.

Sharma carries on as India reach 450 in 98 overs.

Sharma gets another fine knock, this time at his home ground. Ind 419-9 in 92 overs.

India lose another. Direct throw from the deep from Powell. Ind 415-9 in 91 overs.

PP Ojha run out 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

Shilling Ford takes his fifth wicket. Ind 414-8 in 90 overs.

India scored 413 for seven in 89 overs at tea on the second day against West Indies.

India have now got a healthy lead of 231 with Rohit Sharma still batting on 44.

Cheteshwar Pujara added another century to his list before getting out on 113.


Ashwin departs failing to the pull shot right. India are leading by 227 runs. Ind 409-7 in 88.2 overs.

India reach 400 as the lead swells to 218 runs. Ind 400-6 in 85 overs.

After a tiring efforts Best finally tastes success. He has been bowling well since yesterday but has not been successful. Ind 365-6 in 80.5 overs.

Shillingford strikes again. Takes an easy catch off his own bowling. Ind 354-5 n 77.5 overs.

Rohit Sharma and Pujara are finding every opportunity to get the runs flowing. Ind 351-4 in 75 overs.

Another splendid knock from Pujara. His second in a row at the Wankhede stadium. Ind 329-4 in 72.2 overs

Kohli was going strong but he is gone. Another catch for Sammy in the slips. Ind 315-4 in 69.4 overs.

Kohli gets to a well-deserved half century. It's his seventh in Tests. Ind 302-3 in 64 overs.

The wicket of Sachin Tendulkar was the biggest focus point in the first session of Day 2 as India made 282 for 3 in 60 overs, taking a lead of 100 in reply to West Indies 182 in the first innings.

Tendulkar began the day well dealing largely in boundaries as he achieved his half century with a straight boundary. But a stunning catch by Darren Sammy off Narsingh Deonarine put the Mumbai stadium in complete silence. Tendulkar departed scoring 74.

Cheteshwar Pujara is looking all set for a century as he remains unbeaten on 85 while Kohli is 36 not out. The duo shared an unbroken 61-run stand for the fourth wicket.

India progressing smoothly. Pujara and Kohli look for a big partnership. 260-3 in 56 overs.

Sammy spoils the Mumbai party. Takes a blinder as Tendulkar is out on 74. Stunning silence in the stadium, but huge cheer follows as Sachin walks back. Ind 225-3 in 48 overs.

Drinks. India are 216-2 in 47 overs. India lead by 34 runs.

Pujara reaches his half century. It's been a great knock from the youngster as he gets his fourth Test 50. Ind 208-2 in 45 overs.

India crosses 200. Tendulkar already on 67 while Pujara inching closer to his half century. Ind 201-2 in 44 overs.

The partnership crosses 100 between Tendulkar and Pujara as India trail by 1 run. West Indies losing track and are desperate for wickets. Ind 181-2 in 40 overs.

That's it. Tendulkar gets to his half century in style with a brilliant straight-drive boundary. Ind 176-2 in 39 overs.

Tendulkar closes in to his half century. Two good boundaries early in the day has strenghtened his confident. Ind 167-2 in 36 overs.

The stadium has already been filling up fast on the second day as Tendulkar who remained unbeaten on 38 continues to enthrall the crowd for the one last time.

India were trailing by 26 runs in the first innings after Ohja and Ashwin had bundled out Windies for 182.
