Highveld Lions staked their claim for a semifinal berth in the Champions League Twenty20 at the expense of Chennai Super Kings with a thrilling six-wicket victory on Tuesday.

Chennai posted a challenging 158 for six with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni top-scoring with 34 after being sent into bat but the Lions chased down the target with three balls to spare in a Group B match at the Newlands.

It was the second consecutive defeat for Chennai, who lost to Sydney Sixers in their opening match on October 14.

Opener Gulam Bodi smashed a 46-ball 64 to put the Lions in pole position to make it to the semifinals.

The local side beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in their opening match on October 14.

Chennai will now have to win both their remaining matches to have any hope of making it to the semifinals.

Earlier, the Sydney Sixers notched their second consecutive win with a dominating eight-wicket win over Yorkshire.

The Aussie side made short work of chasing down Yorkshire's score of 96 for nine.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin figured in a 78-run stand off 42 balls with Englishman Michael Lumb as the Sixers scored 98 for two in just 8.5 overs.

Mitchell Starc impressed with figures of three for 22 for the Sixers.
