Chelsea are to face a player compared with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi this Saturday in their crunch London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

According to former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp that is how good Gareth Bale is.

Of course, that was before Wales were given a reality check by Croatia.

That was just after Bale had inspired Spurs to a 2-1 win over Scotland last week, scoring both goals.

“He's an amazing, amazing talent and he's after the Ronaldos and Messis of this world and he's getting better and better,” Redknapp said, speaking to BBC.

There is nobody who likes to buy a player who just outclassed his team more than Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Remember Cristiano Ronaldo. And Dimitar Berbatov. And now, Robin van Persie.

Well, should the Andre Villas Boas revolution at Spurs run out of steam, and Spurs find themselves out of the Champions League yet again, Bale will be on his bike – only most feel he might be headed to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Instead, it could well be Fergie that swoops for the winger – especially after his blistering run left Rio Ferdinand for dead when Spurs beat United at Old Trafford in that historic 3-2 win.

Fergie has missed a Ronaldo like presence and it could well be a throwback to the glory days with Van Persie taking the Ruud Van Niestelrooy place, Rooney and now Bale for Ronaldo.

Only Andre Villas Boas can keep Bale at Spurs with a top four finish now.
