England could lose a second experienced midfielder this week with Frank Lampard collapsed clutching his thigh during a practice game on Wednesday.

Chelsea’s Champions League-winning skipper will have a scan on Thursday raising fears he will have to pull out of the squad.

It would be a major blow for England head coach Roy Hodgson who has already lost keeper John Ruddy and midfielder Gareth Barry from his original 23.

Liverpool’s 21-year-old midfielder Jordan Henderson is on standby to take over from Lampard.

Lampard's injury has raised questions about his England future because he is 34 next month and the finals in Poland and Ukraine could be his last tournament for his country.

Although Hodgson had to submit his final squad of 23 with UEFA on Tuesday, it is permitted to replace an injured player after that deadline.

Lampard had been talking excitedly about the Euros and the hope that he might be paired with skipper Steven Gerrard in midfield.

The former West Ham player was keen to make an impression with his country after ceasing to become a regular part of the England side during the latter part of Fabio Capello's reign.

He also bounced back at Chelsea during the final third of the season under Roberto Di Matteo after losing his regular spot during the Andre Villas Boas era.

Lampard helped Blues lift the Champions League for the first time at the expense of Bayern Munich on penalties - plus the FA Cup - to cement his place in the England squad.
