Manchester City have denied rumours of a post-match punch-up in their dressing room after the Barclays Premier League defeat at Arsenal, according to a report.

The aftermath of City's loss, which virtually ended their title hopes, saw reports emerge of a physical confrontation between members of their squad at the Emirates Stadium.

But a club spokesman dismissed that, saying: "It is rubbish."

Sunday's loss left City, bidding to be crowned champions of England for the first time since 1968, eight points behind leaders Manchester United with just six games left to play after the title-holders beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the day.

The match also witnessed another meltdown from Mario Balotelli, who was sent off in the dying moments for a second yellow card.

The Italy forward was fortunate to avoid being dismissed for a 20th minute challenge on Alex Song that went apparently unseen by referee Martin Atkinson.
