Sir Alex Ferguson has been in panic mode for sometime.

And in a good way.

Now that the dust has settled, rather unkindly for Manchester United in some respects, Fergie, who completed 1,000 games in charge at Old Trafford last weekend against Southampton, has some big transfer plans in store.

United did not win anything last season and that is not something that can even be contemplated this season.

On the back of reports that United will consider a £20 million January move for Brazil striker Leandro Damiao, a Tottenham Hotspur target, there is the distinct possibility that Cristiano Ronaldo might be ready to move.

Spurs’ failure for Damiao last week, has left the door open for Fergie and with Wayne Rooney very much in limbo – injured now, will he ever get back to his best? – Damiao will remain a target.

Which raises the question about Rooney’s future at the club as well.

However, that will be nothing compared to an attempt to land Brazil superstar Neymar.

The Sun, in an exclusive report, has claimed that Manchester United failed in a £38m deadline day bid failed for the 20-year old Santos ace.

United have been obsessive in the chasing of Brazilians and Fergie is used to getting what he wants.

Lucas Moura failed (PSG), but Neymar may still be a target in January.

Neymar has hit 113 goals in 190 games for Santos but the bold approach failed.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested in Neymar, but just how desperate Fergie and United are, we will have to wait and see.
