European clubs seek to cut international fixtures

Europe's top football clubs want international football limited to six competitive matches each season outside of major tournaments.

European Club Association Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the reduced international schedule would be "ideal from the clubs' view."

The ECA wants clubs obliged to release their players only for six double-header national team fixture slots over each two-year qualification period for a World Cup or European Championship.

Rummenigge says he received "clear signs" from Fifa President Sepp Blatter that he'll listen to European clubs' requests.

Rummenigge says he's made peace with Blatter, and says his recent comments comparing him to toppled Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak.was "not fair" to the Fifa leader.
