Arsenal are more in need of a striker in the class of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who scored Schalke's opening goal at the Emirates in the Champions League last month.

Arsene Wenger has yet to find a suitable replacement for Robin van Persie with new arrivals Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud in particular failing to fire regularly.

The Gunners have been rescued by midfielder Mikel Arteta and Santi Corzula often.

Dutch ace Huntelaar would be the ideal striker to beef up their attack.

But unless the Gunners move swiftly, they could lose him to Liverpool who are desperate to find a strike partner for Luis Suarez during the second half of their campaign.

The 29-year-old former PSV, Ajax, Real Madrid and AC MIlan striker is in a contract dispute with the German outfit as he enters the final months of his current three-year contract, according to the Daily Mirror (https://bit.ly/WrW2Bk).

Schalke are understood to be ready to let Huntelaar go in January if they cannot reach agreement although Liverpool's £9 million valuation is unlikely to be accepted even in those circumstances.
