Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has decided to press on with a deal for Argentine star Sergio Aguero even without finance from the sale of Carlos Tevez.

The two sides are moving towards agreement on the £39 million buy-out clause in the 23-year-old's contract, BBC reported.

Aguero has previously admitted that he would be open to the possibility of a move to the Premier League should he elect to leave Spain, where Real Madrid are known to be keen.

No deal has been struck yet but negotiations are progressing smoothly, it added.

The arrival of Aguero from Atletico Madrid is not tied in with Tevez's future at City, who is now waiting to discover what his next move will be.

Corinthians pulled out of their move to take Tevez back to Brazil, and be reunited with his family in South America, after initially agreeing a £38.6 million transfer with City.
