Mourinho for Wenger at Arsenal

Head coach Jose Mourinho of Real Madrid kicks the ball on the pitch back to his players to resume the game after conceding an early opening goal during the la Liga match between Real Madrid CF and RC Deportivo La Coruna at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on September 30, 2012 in Madrid, Spain. Jose Mourinho is increasing his pitch for an England return with every passing week signaling the Premier League could see him on a touchline as early as next season.

And it could be the Emirates stadium and not the Theatre of Dreams which marks his return.

The Portuguese, who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea in 2005 and 2006, said it did not matter which Premier League club he would return to despite his affection for the Blues.

"I cannot deny what is clear in my mind. After Real Madrid, England. That is for sure," the former Porto and Inter Milan coach told Britain's Sky Sports Television recently.

Asked which team he would like to join, he then threw a curve ball: "In England, everyone. I'm a blue, I'm a London blue but I'm a professional."

The idea of replacing Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, who has been in charge since 1986 and was due to retire in 2002 but changed his mind, has long appealed to the confident Portuguese manager.

Mourinho has long been touted as a potential successor to Fergie when the 70-year-old eventually decides to call it a day.

Now Mourinho has thrown another curve ball.

When asked about taking over from Ferguson, Mourinho said: “For me, he’s the boss.

"I call him the boss because he’s the boss of the coaches and I hope that when I go back to English football he still manages Manchester United.”

Mourinho also refused to talk about taking over at United's rivals Manchester City instead.

The other club that could do with Mourinho’s hardnosed win titles at all costs approach is Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has always been on a Real Madrid short-list as a Mourinho replacement.

A Wenger-Mourinho switch, as Arsenal-Real Madrid managers seems to be the most plausible.

There are many who feel Wenger’s time at Arsenal is done and will look to a steely character like Mourinho to bring back the trophies to the Emirates stadium.

Old Trafford or the Emirates? The Special One is coming.
