Sir Alex Ferguson has intensified efforts to sign of Sao Paulo wonderkid Lucas Moura especially after Chelsea agreed a Brazilian record £25 million deal to sign Internacional star Oscar.

Manchester United are continuing negotiations with Moura despite having an opening £20 million bid rejected over the weekend, according to the Metro.

Ferguson has made the midfielder his top target this summer and is willing to blow the remainder of his transfer budget to bring 19-year-old sensation to Old Trafford.

Ferguson has sent chief scout Jim Lawlor and club secretary John Alexander to Brazil to work on the deal.

They are trying to force a compromise after Sao Paulo snubbed the opening offer and are holding out for £30m.

The Red Devils are desperate to secure Moura's signature before the Olympic Games, where he is set for a starring role.

Inter Milan, AC Milan and Chelsea are long-term admirers of Lucas but have so far been priced out of a move.

Lucas, who is contracted to Sao Paulo until 2015, has a buyout clause worth £66m.
