Bitter Wayne Rooney may be set to take the ultimate revenge on his boss Sir Alex Ferguson - with a sensational move to Manchester City, The Sun tabloid reported.

And Rooney has told pals he might swap his red shirt for the blue strip of their fierce local rivals.

A source close to Roo, who has refused to sign a new contract, said: "Sir Alex ignores him in training and treats him with utter contempt. There's no way he can stay at United if it continues."

The source added: "He's been asking in private how much City might pay and has even talked about how much he enjoyed playing alongside Carlos Tevez when they were both at United.

Meanwhile, The Sun also claimed Carlo Ancelotti last night opened his arms to Wayne Rooney and said: Come and join us!

Ancelotti said: "We have to wait to see if Wayne Rooney really wants to leave Manchester United, if they really want to sell him.

"And also if Rooney is on the market, not only Chelsea would be interested but a lot of other teams as well."

His fallout with Ferguson is only part of the problem.

Rooney was unhappy at the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid last year and also the lack of spending since.

He does not want to commit himself to a five-year deal with a club that are financially struggling and no longer in the market for the world's best players.
