Russia's Anzhi target Man City's Tevez

Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala are reportedly trying to convince Manchester City's disgruntled striker Carlos Tevez to join recent signing Samuel Eto'o at the free-spending Caucasus side.

The Tvoi Den daily said the upstarts felt Tevez was there for the taking after his dramatic spat with City manager manager Roberto Mancini resulted in a two-week suspension for the Argentine star.

"The conditions for signing Tevez are very good," a source at the club told the newspaper.

The team's general director German Chistyakov issued no comment but star player agent German Tkachenko said he intended to pester City until they agreed to the terms.

Chelsea owner Roman "Abramovich told us to go away 10 times before agreeing to sell (Russian international Yuri) Zhirkov," said Tkachenko.

Tevez has also reportedly drawn interest from Real Madrid along with clubs from Germany and Italy.

The Caspian Sea side have become one of the sport's most brazen poachers of pricey talent since being acquired by the Russian oil and metals magnate Suleiman Kerimov this year.

The reported talks with Manchester City come just a month after Anzhi snatched Cameroon international Eto'o from Inter Milan in what was believed to have been a 21-million-euro (ê27.9-million) deal.

The former lower division side have also been boosted by the additions of Brazil's 1994 World Cup winner Roberto Carlos and Russian international left winger Yuri Zhirkov.

Yet Anzhi have still slipped to eighth after a strong start to the season and are currently looking for another striker who can improve their dire tally of 29 goals from 26 matches.

Anzhi players live and train in Moscow for security reasons and only visit the violence-plagued Makhachkala for home matches.

North Caucasus sides such as Anzhi and Terek Grozny have tried to spend their way to glory in an carefully-calculated attempt to raise the impoverished region's public profile and self image.

Terek is backed by the Chechen administration of former warlord and current Kremlin ally Ramzan Kadyrov -- a hate figure for rights groups who regularly shows up at the stadium.

He recently sacked Dutch legend Ruud Gullit after the team's failure to stay safely out of the relegation zone and is now reportedly ready to open talks with the 33-year-old French international Nicolas Anelka of Chelsea.

"They club will do everything to ensure that Anelka ends up on our team this winter," a sorce at Terek told the LifeSports website.
