Fulham midfielder Steve Sidwell is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks following a hernia problem, Cottagers manager Martin Jol confirmed on Thursday.

The 29-year-old has already faced a spell out of action this season after a hernia operation and now faces a similar layoff after a new problem emerged in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

"We had an injury to Steve Sidwell and he will be out for a long time for four, five or six weeks," Jol said on Thursday.

"He had a hernia operation as you know and it is almost the same problem.

"He had an operation and we have to wait but we fear he needs another operation."

Nelsen joins Spurs after release by Blackburn

New Zealand defender Ryan Nelsen has completed his free transfer to Premier League title contender Tottenham following his release from Blackburn.

The 34-year-old Nelsen, who captained his country at the 2010 World Cup, will provide cover at center back with Ledley King and William Gallas injured and Sebastien Bassong having been loaned out to Wolverhampton Wanderers for the rest of the season.

Blackburn canceled Nelsen's contract on Tuesday - Europe's transfer deadline day _ allowing Tottenham to sign the player despite the January window having closed.

Spurs assistant manager Kevin Bond says Nelsen, who has played just one first-team game this season, is in contention to feature against Liverpool on Monday.
