Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United are in the market for all sorts of players  - from speedy wingers to skillful forwards.

However, the real whole this season has been in midfield and no matter Sir Alex says, Patrick Viera’s quote on him being shocked at Paul Scholes having to come out of retirement to help United – it is the fact of the matter.

Which is why an exclusive report in the Daily Mail will be good news for Sir Alex (https://bit.ly/GPkPp6).

According to the report, Luka Modric won’t sign a new deal at Tottenham until he knows who will be boss next season.

The 26-year old midfield star has been rated very highly by Sir Alex and will be the ideal playmaker for a United team who are still blooding future stars like Tom Cleverley and Anderson.

It is why Modric is on the wanted list of Chelsea as well.

The Blues offered a massive £40million for the Croat last summer rejected by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who insisted Modric was not for sale “ at any price”.

But now Modric is set to postpone his decision to see how the managerial situation at Spurs develops before he makes a commitment.

Manager Redknapp has emerged as the leading candidate for the England job that was vacated by Fabio Capello.

Spurs have experienced a run of three successive Premier League defeats, a last-minute draw against Stoke and were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea yesterday.
