Spurs to make shock bid for Barcelona's Afellay
Tottenham are closing in on a shock move for Barcelona’s Dutch attacking star Ibrahim Afellay, according to the 'Mirror'.
Spurs chief scout Ian Broomfield watched the exciting target in the Audi Cup clash with Brazilian club Internacional in Germany.
Afellay played the first half – enough time to let Broomfield send a report back to Harry Redknapp about his form.
The Netherlands international joined Barcelona from PSV in the winter transfer window in a reported €3 million deal, but was not a regular in the starting XI.
However, Afellay wants to stay out of injury’s way and claims he will do his utmost to earn a place in coach Pep Guardiola’s squad plans after starting in the club’s penalty shootout victory over Internacional following a 2-2 draw at the Audi Cup pre-season tournament in Munich.
“I hope I stay fit and that I will do like last season and play as much as possible,” he told reporters after the match, Goal.com reported.
“I can only do my best, work hard every day and show what I can do.”
The Dutchman reflected on that match and was pleased the style of football displayed by his team against the South American outfit.
“We created a lot of opportunities to score. This was a fantastic stadium, with a fantastic pitch. When the pitch is good, we can play the best football,” he added.
