The sixth edition of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters will be held at the Emirates Golf Club from December 14 to 17, promoters and organisers of the season-ending Ladies European Tour event have announced.

The euro 500,000 (Dh2.7 million) tournament will be preceded by a Challenge Match, featuring six marquee players, on December 12, and the traditional pro am will be held on December 13.

The championship will be played over 72 holes with the winner taking home a €75,000 (Dh402,193) first prize.

Since making its debut in 2006, the event, promoted and organised by golf in Dubai, has become a permanent feature of the UAE golfing calendar, showcasing the cream of the Ladies European Tour players along with a galaxy of LPGA superstars, like Michelle Wie, Christina Kim, In-Kyung Kim, Natalie Gulbis and Kerry Webb to name a few.

“We are delighted to announce the dates of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters which we believe will once again provide a first class entertainment for fellow players, fans and spectators at the Emirates Golf Club,” said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in Dubai.

"It has always been our constant endeavour to try and assemble the best possible field. We have been doing that because of the enthusiastic support of the players," said Buamaim, adding: "The 2011 edition will be no exception.

“We are in talks with some of the leading players and, hopefully, will announce their names very soon. One thing, however, is sure: the tournament will have a new winner as defending champion Iben Tinning of Denmark has hung up her golfing shoes for good," said Buamaim, who also lauded golf in Dubai's partnership with Omega.

"We feel honoured to have Omega is our title sponsor until 2014, a partnership which has grown with time. Together we will strive and deliver an event in sync with Dubai's reputation as an ideal golfing destination," he said.

In a bid to encourage more and more fans come to the watch the action, the organisers have once again announced that there will be no entry fee and the tournament, for the third time, will have a Saturday finish.

The 2010 edition of the tournament produced a dream finish for Tinning, who drained a 20-footer for a birdie to win her farewell tournament by a good two shots ahead of second-placed Anna Nordqvist of Sweden and three of England's Melissa Reid.

Fireworks, too, were aplenty with the players lighting up the Majlis course with five eagles, 810 birdies and 3,909 pars. The par-5, third hole turned out to be the easiest hole with players scoring 101 birdies against just 25 bogeys. The par-4, fourth proved to the toughest hole, producing 110 bogeys.

The hole-in-one prizes on the seventh and 15th may have gone abegging, but there was no dearth of quality shots which had the crowd marvelling in awe at the prowess of the swinging stars.

'golf in Dubai' is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Emirates NBD, Jumeirah, Mercedes-Benz and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in Dubai’s drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
