Mercedes-Benz has been named Official Car Sponsor of the MENA Golf Tour, it was announced on Wednesday.

Under terms of the agreement, Mercedes-Benz will chauffer leading players to and from the venues in latest models, besides making a significant on-site presence.

A superb new initiative by the Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation, the Tour tees off next week, promising to mark a watershed moment in the history of the game in the region.

Already, players from nearly 30 countries have signed up for the Tour which features four events to be held at different courses in the UAE.

Boasting a combined prize fund of $ 225,000, the Tour is open to both professionals and amateurs from any part of the world.
"With our commitment to this brand new Tour, we very much look forward to promoting the close ties between the sport of golf and Mercedes-Benz,” said Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East & Levant.
“We have already been associated with the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters as the Official Car Sponsors, and this partnership with the MENA Golf Tour is a natural extension of our long-standing history with the sport which we have always felt hamonises our brand values,” he said.

No stranger to golf sponsorship on the global stage, Mercedes-Benz has also been the Official Automobile Partner of The Masters in Augusta as well as the Official Patron of the PGA of America which includes the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup 2012. Mercedes-Benz is also sponsoring the British Open since 2011 which means they are associated with three of the four Major tournaments.

“Mercedes-Benz is a big name and a big brand and it's an honour and privilege for us to have them on board,” said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, chairman of the MENA Golf Tour. “We look forward to working together in partnership that, I am sure, will continue grow with time.

There is a huge sense of anticipation ahead of the Tour as it will provide a good opportunity to players to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.
The first event will be held at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club from September 25 to 28 while the second and third event will be played from October 2 to 5 and October 9 to 12 at the Tower Links Golf in Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai’s Al Badia Golf Club respectively before the tour reaches its climax with the ‘Tour Championship’ to be held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf from October 16 to 19.

The top three professionals and the leading amateur from the Order of Merit will receive special invitations to compete in the 2012 Omega Dubai Desert Classic and, possibly, other European Tour events in the region.
