UAE team fancy their chances of making a strong finish when the GCC Golf Championship gets under way at Bahrain’s Royal Golf Club, the venue of the recent Volvo Golf Champions tournament, from February 9 to 11.

Leading the UAE challenge in the regional competition will be Khalid Yousuf, Abdalla Al Musharrekh, Ahmed Al Musharrekh and Nabil Sharif while Hassan Al Musharrekh and Faisal Al Marzouqi will battle it out for honours in the junior division.
A top-level Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) delegation, led by its chairman Shaikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, will attend the opening ceremony. Other members the delegation include Secretary-General Adel Zarouni and General Manager Saeed Albudoor.
In the run up to the GCC championship, the UAE have trained hard under the watchful eyes of UAE national coach Chris Vallender. “The boys appear to be in good nick and if they play to their potential we certainly can win the championship,” the coach said.
“All members of the senior and junior teams have played in the championship before and hence know what to expect. The important thing is that the boys are determined to improve upon on their last year’s performance,” he said.
The UAE team posted a creditable third-place finish in the senior category last year and a solid second in the junior division at the Doha Golf Club.
“Certainly, we are expecting a much better show from the teams this time around,” said Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the EGF. “They have all done well in our National Medal events and I have every reason to believe they will return home with something cheer about.”
