India build huge lead over Sri Lanka

India reached 189-3 and a second-innings lead of nearly 500 runs after another powerful display on the third day of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Friday.

India captain Virat Kohli remained at the crease on 76. Abhinav Mukund was out lbw for 86 on what turned out to be the last ball of the day in Galle.

India scored 600 in their first innings and then finished bowling Sri Lanka out for 291 earlier Friday. They go into the fourth day with a commanding lead of 498.

Sri Lanka fold up for 291 in India Test

Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets as India bundled out Sri Lanka for 291 shortly after lunch on the third day of the first Test in Galle on Friday.

Sri Lanka are down to 10 men after losing Asela Gunaratne who broke his thumb while fielding on the first day of the game.

India, who made 600 in their first innings, took a 309-run lead after deciding against enforcing a follow-on.

Dilruwan Perera remained unbeaten on 92 and Angelo Mathews made 83 in an otherwise lacklustre first innings display by the hosts.
