IPL MI v GL: Gujarat Lions win thriller against Mumbai Indians

Aaron Finch scored a brilliant unbeaten half century to anchor his team to a third successive victory in the IPL 2016. His 67 not out ensured Gujarat Lions secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians.

Needing 11 runs off the last over, Dhawal Kulkarni began well with a boundary while Finch finished it off in style finding the fence off the last ball. Finch's innings came off 54 balls consisting of seven boundaries and a six.

Suresh Raina (27) was the another batsman to come good with the bat.

Earlier, Gujarat Lions bowlers put on a fine performance to restrict Mumbai Indians to 143 for eight in 20 overs.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals with Parthiv Patel top scoring with 34 off 29 deliveries including two boundaries and as many sixes.

A late flourish from Tim Southee (25) and Krunal Pandya (20 not out) helped Mumbai Indians get the final push to post a challenging total.

For Gujarat, Dhawal Kulkarni and Pravin Tambe claimed two wickets each.

Finch stays till the end to score an unbeaten 67 to guide Gujarat Lions to a thrilling win. GL 147-7 in 20 overs.

 

McClenaghan is bowling an amazing over as he removes Praveen Kumar putting Gujarat Lions in a stage of bother. Great catch by wicketkeeper Patel. GL 131-7 in 18.4 overs.

The match is entering an interesting stage as Gujarat Lions lose another wicket. Akshdeep Nath gets a top edge for an easy catch to Pandya at mid-on. Gujarat now need 35 off 23 with Finch batting on 47. GL 109-5 in 16.1 overs.

Things suddenly look to be slipping out of control for Gujarat as they lose another wicket. Bravo departs after he is caught behind, though he is unhappy with the decision. GL 83-4 in 12.2 overs.

Karthik departs after Harbhajan takes a fine catch in the deep. Wicket for the younger Pandya as Gujarat needs 64 from 53 balls. GL 80-3 in 11.1 overs.

Much needed break for Mumbai as skipper Raina top edges one for an easy catch to the wicketkeeper. GL 65-2 in 8.3 overs

Half century partnership between Raina and Finch comes in 38 balls. GL 63-1 in 8 overs.

Raina and Finch are in fine form as they keep the momentum going. Mumbai will need some wickets to fight back into this contest. GL 53-1 in 7 overs.

Raina and Finch looking good as the duo add 23 runs. They need 109 from 90 balls. GL 35-1 in 5 overs.

Gujarat lose the big wicket of McCullum, a full toss and McCullum cuts it as Pandya takes a fine diving catch. There were doubts if Pandya had caught it clean but the third umpire confirmed it. GL 12-1 in 1.3 overs.

MUMBAI INDIANS INNINGS

After some fine hitting, Southee fails to grab a quick run as he is run out. MI 141-8 in 19.5 overs.

Faulkner strikes as Rayudu is bowled. Not a good thing for the hosts as Mumbai Indians reach 99-7 in 17 overs.

When it looked like Harbhajan Singh would just add a few quick runs for Mumbai, he departs edging a fine delivery off Bravo. MI 88-6 in 15.5 overs.

Exceptional bowling from Gujarat Lions as Mumbai Indians reach 82-5 in 15 overs.

The well settled Patel departs as Tambe picks his second wicket. Mumbai Indians have lost half their side as they stare at a low score finish. MI 77-5 in 13 overs.

Big wicket for Gujarat as Pravin Tambe strikes in his very first delivery to remove the dangerous Pollard. Bravo takes a high catch in the deep. MI 59-4 in 10.1 overs.

Great stuff from Jakati as he bowls a wide when Buttler steps out for a big one. Dinesh Karthik does the job as Buttler is gone adding further trouble for Mumbai. MI 51-3 in 8.5 overs.

Amazing spell from Kulkarni as he gives away just 11 runs in his three overs accounting for two wickets. MI 31-2 in 6 overs.

A slow start for Mumbai Indians as they reach 26-2 in 5 overs. They need a partnership here. 

Hardik Pandya out in a similar fashion but this time he was attempting a pull the short delivery. Mumbai in trouble after early losses. MI 19-2 in 3.3 overs.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is gone as Kulkarni strikes. His flick goes straight into the hands of Jakati at square leg. MI 7-1 in 1.3 overs.
