IPL RCB vs GL: Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash Gujarat Lions by 144 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore routed Gujarat Lions by a record margin of 144 runs to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Playoffs.

This was the heaviest margin of victory in the IPL surpassing the 140-run win by Kolkata Knight Riders in the first IPL.

AB de Villiers clobbered 12 sixes and 10 fours in a savage attack on the Lions while Kohli cracked right sixes and five boundaries.

Royal Challengers Bangalore powered by incredible centuries from Virat Kohli (109) and AB de Villiers (129 not out) hammered 248-3 against Gujarat Lions.

Kohli smashed eight sixes and five boundaries in his 55-ball knock while ABD hammered 12 sixes and 10 fours in his 52-ball innings as they massacred the Lions attack.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will play host to the Gujarat Lions in Match 44 of IPL at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

RCB have four wins from ten outings and are placed in the bottom half of the table.

Gujarat Lions have seven wins from 11 outings and a win in this match will almost confirm their passage to the Playoffs.

The Lions will be without their captain Suresh Raina – who will miss an IPL match for the first time ever – since he is away on paternity leave.

Brendon McCullum is expected to take over the reins of the team.

In the only previous meeting between them, Royal Challengers Bangalore won by six wickets.
