Wings Ahmedabad Aces continued their winning spree when they thumped Alubond Hyderabad Nawabs by 45 runs at the Fairground Oval of the Dubai Men’s College to book a place in the final of the Superstars T20 cricket tournament.
The tournament is conducted by Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) and supported by Web Channel with Yas Sports, Saaiba Restaurant and Danube Buildmart as support sponsors.
Ahmedabad now take on either Phoenix Medicines Karachi Kings or Globelink Weststar Shipping Kochi Islander in the final on Friday commencing at 5pm.
Radio Spice 105.4 FM will cover the event live from the venue.
For the first time in the history of domestic cricket in the UAE, a brand new KIA car will be given to the Man of the Series.
It was a collective effort from the Ahmedabad team as first their batsmen - Shahzaib Hassan (94) and Ishtiyaq Ghori (52) – in particular did well to put up a healthy 200 on the board for the loss of six wickets from their 20 overs.
Later their bowlers, led by a four-wicket burst from Ryan Hinds, restricted Hyderabad to 155 for 8.
Skipper Nasir Aziz took a big gamble of putting his opponents in after winning the toss.
Although they tasted early success with the wicket of Ashfaq Ahmed off the first ball from Sultan Ahmed, they found themselves on the receiving end for the rest of the match.
Man of the match Shahzaib Hassan literally made Nasir pay the price for his decision to field by putting his bowlers to the sword during his knock of 94 which came from only 43 balls and contained 11 sixes and two boundaries.
Ishtiyaq Ghori joined him to inflict more misery with a 79-run fifth-wicket partnership.
By the time Shahzaib departed Ahmedabad were well placed on 171.
However, it was not over yet for Hyderabad as Ishtiyaq helped himself to an unbeaten 52 from just 35 balls with a six and five fours which propelled them to an imposing 200.
Having chased hell for leather it was but obvious the Hyderabad players were exhausted and that showed when opener Zakir Malik was run-out without facing a ball.
Abdul Shakoor and Karim Sadiq restored the innings with a 40-run partnership, but once both were dismissed the writing was on the wall for Hyderabad as Ryan Hinds rocked their boat with four wickets.
No. 7 batsman Umair Ali tried to keep the chase going with a well-struck 36 from 28 balls but it was a case of too little too late.
