Chawla Sindhi Royals had a successful one-week tour of the UK with comprehensive victories over Leicestershire grey Fox’s and Birmingham Fossils.
The victors of the Sindhi Premier Cricket tournament adapted well to the cold and rainy weather conditions with powerful performances from both their batsmen and bowlers.
Chawla, who were invited to bat after losing the toss, made the most of the loose bowling by the Leicester attack.
Despite the early dismissal of Vinay Mehra for 10, man of the match Swapnil Patil and Santu Rupani showed no mercy for the Leicester bowlers as they clobbered them to all parts of the Leicester Banks.
While Swapnil cut loose, Santu played the sheet-anchor role. Their 81-run partnership for the second wicket laid the perfect foundation for the other batsmen to come and build on it.
Santu finally departed after scoring a well-made 46 which came off 62 balls and consisted a six and five boundaries.
Avadoot Amonkar joined Swapnil but he barely lasted just one ball. Leicestershire bowlers began to breathe a little easy but that lasted only for a while as Avadoot’s ouster brought in Rajesh Thadani and the punishment of the bowlers continued.
Rajesh, watching Swapnil have a go at everything that was thrown at him, too, got into the act.
With both putting the Leicestershire bowling attack to the sword runs came in a flurry. Another big partnership between these two took the wind out of the sails of the Leicester attack.
A 96-run partnership for the fourth wicket took the match out of the hands of Leicestershire as Swapnil helped himself to 98 from 55 balls (4x6, 10x4) and Rajesh struck 64 from 34 balls (5x6, 4x4) to help Chawla reach an impregnable 248 for 5 from their 30 overs.
Playing at home one expected Leicestershire to be familiar with the conditions. But apart from Nick Jelly (25), Surendra Chauhan (18), and Gary Wheaton (14) none of the other batsmen could hold their ground against some inspired bowling from Rajesh Thadani who finished with figures of 4-3-2-3, while Avadoot, Shiva Pagarani and Harish Jashnani gave him good support with two wickets each.
In another match of the tour, Chawla took on Birmingham Fossils at their ground in Worcestershire.
Batting first Chawla scored 115 thanks to Vinay Mehra and Neeraj Ramamoorthy’s 41-run seventh-wicket partnership.
Vinay scored 35 and Neeraj chipped in with 25.
Thompson was almost unplayable and finished with impressive bowling figures of 4-0-9-5.
However their batsmen were reduced to 87 with only Lawrence top-scoring with 37.
Vinay Mehra and Naveen Punjabi bagged three and two wickets respectively.
