Belgium and Canada have been tied at the top closely followed by the USA at the end of four rounds in the Formation Skydiving 4-Way Open category at the 5th Dubai International Parachuting Championships (DIPC) being held at the Skydive Dubai drop zone.

At the end of the second day of competition on Saturday, Belgium and Canada were in contest for the top prize with 88 points, while the USA squad was in third with 84 points.

France, Russia and the UAE had been among the early contenders in the Formation Skydiving 4-way for women and there was little change in the standings with France managing to keep their lead at the top with 68 points followed by the UAE and USA with 52 and 51 points respectively.

In the Accuracy Landing for teams, China is in first place followed by their junior team with just two centimetres separating the two sides. The third place is being jointly occupied by France, Oman and Switzerland.

Despite winds getting a bit faster, organisers managed to complete four rounds of the Speed Skydiving, after which reigning champion Christian Labhart of Switzerland is being pursued by countryman Markus Fuchs, while Moritz Friess of Germany is in third place. Luc Maisin of Belgium is in fourth while Dmitry Gmyzin of Russia is in fifth place.

In the Formation Skydiving 4-Way Vertical Formation Skydiving, it was the team from Canada safely at the top with an average of 16 followed in second by Poland with an average of 0.67.

Jumpers from France once again asserted their superiority as they took the lead in the Formation 8-Way competition with an average of 16.67, followed in second by Russia with 15.67 and the UAE in third position with 15.33.

In its fifth edition, the annual DIPC is hosting competitions in 12 different categories for men and women. More than 1,000 jumpers representing 42 countries have been competing at the Skydive Dubai drop zone on The Palm. The last day of the championships is December 7.

A total of more than Dh1.5 million is on offer for all the competitions.
