Dubai is set to create another world record by hosting a 24-Hour Tennis Marathon next month.

French tennis star Mario Bartoli has been roped in as brand ambassador for this unique event featuring corporate companies from the UAE.

The 24-Hour Tennis Marathon will be held on November 13 and 14 at the courts of Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.

This world record breaking event is being organised by Sherriff International Sports Management (SISM), the organisation behind the successful Dubai Tennis Academy, and Veracity World. It is supported by the Dubai Sports Council.

There has been no tennis tournament played for 24 hours at a stretch in the recorded history of tennis.

It will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for having more than 72 players playing in an exhibition event.

Each team will consist of 12 players inclusive of captains who will be selected from the Dubai Tennis Academy coaching squad.

The tennis marathon will begin at 1 pm on November 13 and conclude at 1 pm on November 14.

Players will get the opportunity to meet and play with and against the 2013 Wimbledon Champion Bartoli who has won eight WTA singles titles and three doubles titles in her career.

“We are very pleased to launch the first-ever 24 Hour Tennis Marathon in Dubai, a city where tennis has seen a growing interest in the recent years. The event not only comes as a platform for local players to showcase their tennis playing skills, but would also act as an ideal fun family outing. This event would be an annual event starting this year and we are hopeful that the event will help encourage the local talent and also attract more people to take up the sport,” said Vipin Sharma, managing director of Veracity World.

“Dubai has already made its mark as an important destination in the annual ATP and WTA calendar with the annual ATP and WTA event in Dubai attracting most of the top 10 ranked players amongst both men and women. Our attempt at the 24 Hour Marathon would further elevate Dubai and UAE’s position as the tennis hub in the region,” said Strath Sherriff, Managing Director of SISM.

The event has already welcomed participation from corporates like ADIB, Pepsi, Channel 4 and Grand Hyatt who will back their own teams in the tournament. The tournament is still welcoming participation from interested corporates and players.

Players from the tennis community of the UAE are invited to register their nomination to participate in this unique tennis event.
