The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) announced the launch of its 'Sports Strategic Plan in Dubai 2016 - 2021' which aims to regulate activities in accordance with the standards set by the government.

The overall perspectives and guidelines for the new set of plans and its implementation for the next five years under the DSC umbrella, were presented by DSC's vice-chairman Mattar Al Tayer; DSC secretary general Saeed Hareb; and Mariam Al Hammady, board member of DSC and chairperson, Strategic Planning Committee, at a press conference on Monday.

Al Tayer said: "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, is a leader who strives hard to attain a better future for his people; and along with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, have given us all a long term vision of the UAE and Dubai.

"Sports being an integral part of our future, has been given a big boost with the establishment of the Dubai Sports Council which now is entering the phase of designing and coming out with a new strategy for the next five years till 2021."

Mariam in her introduction of the guidelines set for the 2016-21 strategy, said: "DSC’s new strategy is derived from Dubai strategic plan 2021, aiming to attain Dubai vision 2021. The new strategy endeavours to create a distinctive sports community,” she added.

Residents in the UAE have been urged to have their say via (#Dubai_ Pulse_ Sport) with the DSC pledging to focus on improving infrastructure in sports clubs while maintaining high levels in organising events.

"The new strategy till 2021 will encompass all hopes and aspirations of the sports sector that is inspired by the holistic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed. All the residents are invited to participate in our initial fact finding mission with the aim to improve the standards and also for them to suggest ways to get more and more people into community recreation for the health of everyone," Hareb said.

"We are going into a first phase of acquiring a data study base based on facts and figures including the valued suggestions of the residents and all the other sectors before finalising the programme for the next five years," he said.

“What do you want from sport? What do you want for your children? You are living in Dubai. Ok, you want to do something for your family and for your kids, what should the Dubai Sports Council be concentrating on?" said Hareb addressing Dubai residents.

“Go to the beach, see how many people are there. Go to Al Qudra, many people are cycling. We are concentrating on making facilities for them (the residents), that’s why I want their opinion,” added Hareb.

He pointed to the success of the Dubai International Sports Conference which was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

"Look at the Dubai International Sports Conference held last week during which time the prestigious Globe Soccer Awards night was organised. It was one of the biggest conferences of its kind in the world," he said.

Dubai may be famous for the richest horse racing in the world, but it is just one of the 444 events held in 2015.

However, Hareb says that quality must keep improving across the whole of the sports industry.

"Dubai may be famous for the richest horse racing in the world, but it is just one of the 444 events held in 2015.

However, Hareb says that quality must keep improving across the whole of the sports industry.

"The ranking system we have devised to get the five-star rating to each and every event is just one of the very few points in a big list of quality improvement moves we have stuck to always. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed always says that everything should be standardised at five star, you cannot go lower than this. He always tries to achieve go number one (in organisaton)," he said.

Hareb added: "Take for example the next rounds of Asian and regional sports events here, it will be a good testing ground for our already established status of being the region's leading sports hub. What we do is for UAE. As we improve standards of sports, definitely we are going to have good results in the international stage."
