A whirlwind unbeaten century from man of the match Sharjeel Khan and stupendous bowling performances by Asif Mumtaz (4 for 28) and Hafiz Kaleem (3 for 15) highlighted Phoenix Medicines Karachi Kings’ rout of Interface Delhi Mughals in the Superstars T20 cricket tournament at the Fairground Oval of the Dubai Men’s College.
The tournament is conducted by Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) and supported by Web Channel with Yas Sports and Saaiba Restaurant as support sponsors.
This was Karachi's second successive win in Group D, while Delhi, after winning their first match against DCB Colombo Lions, have lost both their matches.
Batting first Delhi were bundled out for 132. The only stand-out performance for them was from Jagrit Anand whose 50 gave the team’s score some respectability.
Chasing a modest target, Karachi Kings went about their task in a positive manner. Sharjeel was in his element as he flayed the opposition attack with disdain.
So brutal was his attack on the Delhi bowlers that 88 of his 101 runs came off sixes (10) and boundaries (7) making for an entertaining evening to the motley crowd that turned up at the ground.
Karachi Kings and Yogi Goan Cobras will advance from their group to the next stage as both are on four points.
But Karachi are expected to top the group as they take on winless DCB Colombo Lions next.
In another match Globelink Weststar Shipping Kochi Islanders handed GHI Lahore Gladiators their third straight defeat in Group A when they outplayed them by nine wickets.
Lahore batted first and but for Maqsood Ahmad’s 22 and some late rally from No. 10 Luqman Bashir (17) and No. 11 batsmen Tariq Khan (10) managed to barely raise 96 on the scoreboard.
But Kochi rattled those runs in 9.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. Opener Mohammed Aqib led from the front with an unbeaten 66 from 32 balls which had five sixes and four boundaries in it.
