NAS Sports Tournament offers Dh6 million in prize money

The second NAS Sports Tournament is poised to become the richest competition during Ramadan with total prize money exceeding six million dirhams for six events.

It will be held from June 29 to July 20 at the Nad Al Sheba Sport Complex after the night prayers during the month of Ramadan on the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the Dubai Sports Council.

The organising committee of the Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Sports tournament also revealed details of prizes for both participants and spectators at a press conference on Saturday.

Draws for futsal and volleyball competition were held. Paddle tennis, squash, running and cycling are the other four events of the tournament.

Director of the tournament Hasan Al Mazruie expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Sheikh Hamdan for his continuous support to sport in general and to this tournament in particular.

He stressed that the objective of this event was to give UAE youth and residents a chance to practice interesting and enjoyable physical activities after Taraweeh Prayers.

Majid al Abbar, head of security and protocol committee, said they have increased the number of seats, parking lots, hospitality services and distribution of gifts on daily basis, while the events will be televised live on Dubai TV.

Nasser Al Rahma of Dubai Sports Council explained that the contests and the finals will be organised according to the standards approved by national federations.

Teams will be able to register three foreign players for futsal.

Running will be open for the following categories: Professional men (UAE citizens), professional men and women (residents), and amateurs.

Registration for the 10km run will be open till June 29.

Cycling for 70 km will be open for all categories including children under 16 years (for 20 km) and athletes with special needs.
