PSL T20: Afridi stars as Peshawar Zalmi win by 8 wickets

Malan cracks two consecutive boundaries off Nawaz to steer Zalmi to an eight-wicket win over Quetta Gladiators.

Chasing a target of 130, Zalmi made it for the loss of Hafeez (36) and Kamran Akmal (17).

Malan remained unbeaten on 60 as Zalmi made 130-2 in 18.4 overs.

Akmal falls with 16 needed to win. Zalmi 114-2, 16.4 overs

Elliott is not spared by Hafeez who sends him crashing to third man with a wristy shot. Zalmi 56-0, 8 overs.

Hafeez is in sublime touch pulling Nawaz for a boundary. Zalmi 48-0, 7 overs.

Hafeez gets going clubbing Nawaz for a towering straight six and a couple of boundaries down the ground. Zalmi 33-0, 5 overs.

Malan hits the first boundary of the innings swinging Babar to backward square leg as Zalmi begin chasing 130.

A T20 world record 10th wicket partnership of 63 between Elliott (40) and Babar (20 not out) lifted Gladiators to 129 after Afridi had taken a career best 5 for 7 after tottering at 66-9 in the 13th over.

At one stage, Zalmi skipper Shahid Afridi and pace spearhead Wahab Riaz rattled through the Gladiators batting line-up and took seven wickets among themselves to leave the Sarfraz Ahmed-led side in trouble at 61-6 in 10 overs.

Skipper Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Zalmi with figures 4-1-7-5. followed by Wahab Riaz 3-019-2.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar and pacer Junaid Khan also chipped in by claiming a wicket each.

The 50 partnership between Elliott and Babar comes off just 25 balls.

Asghar goes for 19 as Babar gets into the act slamming a boundary and six. Glads 102-9, 15 overs.

Drama in Sharjah as Wahab is on fire bowling Shehzad and Sangakkara within the space of four balls. Gladiators 41-2, 5 overs.

A fired up Riaz also sends back Sangakkara who is bowled off an inside edge.

Riaz has the last laugh coming round the wicket and castling Shehzad with a slower ball and sparks fly thereafter sparking a midfield physical confrontation.

Shehzad welcomes Riaz by standing and delivering smashing a towering six over long-on.

Quetta Gladiators have won the toss and elected to bat in Match 17 of PSL against Peshawar Zalmi at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Islamabad United beat Karachi Kings by five wickets in Match 16 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (38) shared a crucial 63-run stand for the fourth wicket with Khalid Latif (33) to rescue his side after losing three early wickets.

For Kings, Sohail Khan was the pick of the bowlers with figures 4-0-23-2, followed by Mohammad Amir 4-1-21-1.

Earlier, Islamabad United put up a disciplined bowling display to restrict Karachi Kings to 128-5.

Imran Khalid returned figures 4-0-19-2 and was declared the Man of the Match.

For Karachi, Bopara and Mushfiqur Raheem stood out with 45 and 33 runs respectively but lost their wickets before they could hit the pedal in death overs.

Debutant Shahzaib Hasan shined for Kings, smashing a 19-ball 27 with three fours and one six.

United had won the toss and elected to field first.

Left-arm pace sensation Amir returned for Kings after missing last two outings.

United, on the other hand, who were without the services of Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, brought in former Pakistan all-rounder Mahmood.
