The champions and the best performers of the 40th Bukhatir League were honoured at a glittering function held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium VIP lounge.

The tournament held in association with Interface Transworld and organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council witnessed some wonderful and nerve-wracking matches that were played over a month at the sprawling Sharjah Cricket Stadium that holds the Guinness World Record for hosting the highest number one-day internationals.

While Danube Lions emerged the champions, GMW Royals took the runners-up title.

Sharjah Cricket Council Vice-Chairman Waleed Bukhatir, who handed over the trophies along with Nalin Khaitan of Interface Transworld, thanked all the 16 participating teams and offered his gratitude to the sponsors Interface Transworld for supporting cricket in the region for over 20 years.

“We are grateful to Interface Transworld for sponsoring the prestigious domestic league in the UAE and thank all the participating teams to have put up a wonderful show. We congratulate Danube Lions for having made it all the way to the title and wish all the teams best of luck for the future tournaments,” Bukhatir said.

Anis Sajan of Danube Lions said: “It’s always ones dream to win the Bukhatir League, the most prestigious trophy that has been played since the past four decades in Sharjah and Danube Lions are proud to have won it this year.”

While closely missing out on the title, Zafar Shah, Chairman of Grand Midwest Hotels, said: “We are happy with the way the boys have performed this year at the Bukhatir League but were unlucky in the final. But we promise to come back stronger next year and go one step better.”
