SuperStars T20 teams unveiled for new tournament

The Superstars T20 Team Unveiling event took place at a glittering ceremony at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dubai, on Monday which was supported and organised by WebChannel.

The SuperStars T20 is one of the richest tournaments in UAE Domestic circuit being conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council and will commence from Thursday April 25 with the final to be played on Friday May 24 at Fairground Oval in Dubai Men’s college.

Teams named after cities from India, Pakistan, Singapore and UAE will compete for a total prize money of Dh60,000.

The Man of the series will be awarded with not only a cash award of Dh2,000 and a trophy but will be presented a brand new KIA Picanto car. 

For the first time in UAE domestic cricket history a car will be awarded to a player for his outstanding individual performance.

The function was attended by David East, CE of the Emirates Cricket Board, Mohamed Lokhandwala, Honorary  Secretary of  Dubai Cricket Council,  Bilal Sheikh, MD of  Yas Sports who are the support sponsors, Roop Razdan, Owner of the Fairgrounds Oval.

Most  team owners also marked their presence with Anis Sajan, Adnan ul Mulk, Adil Mirza, Shiva Pagarani amongst others adding grandeur to the evening.

East said, "Being a former first class cricketer, I very much like the concept of the tournament of encouraging the local talent and awarding them handsomely and I wish the Dubai Cricket Council and the organisers, players and teams a highly successful tournament."

Lokhandwala thanked East for his support and commended the organising team of Abdul Azim and Rahul Dalwale saying, "DCC has always tried to be innovative in their approach to conducting tournaments and is highly delighted to conduct the T20 Superstars which like the Kerala Premier League has the potential to grow and become a bigger tournament but needs the help and support  of sponsorships from the local business community."

Abdul Azim Ansari Director of SuperStars T20 thanked DCC for their support and said: “We have taken a right step in the direction of trying to achieve our goal of providing one of the finest cricketing tournaments in UAE and the focus is on encouraging UAE’s  local cricketing talent and increasing public awareness and fan following of UAE domestic cricket.”
 
The organising committee comprises AbdulAzim Ansari, Rahul Dalwale, Anuja Azim with Farrukh Siddiqui who is going to be the Match Referee for all games.

The tournament will see 31 matches being played with the opening encounter between ‘Yogi Goan Cobras’ and ‘Phoenix Medicines Karachi Kings’ taking place on Thursday April 25 at 7.30 pm.

The main sponsors of the tournament are WebChannel, Yas Sports (Official sports goods partner), Saibaa Restaurant (Official catering partner), Danube (Man of the Match Sponsor), Radio Spice 105.4 (Official Radio Partner), ARY Digital (Official Media Partner), Zulekha Hospitals (Medical Partner) and Sun blast Organic Juices.
