The inaugural Pakistan Super League (PSL) game saw a packed-to-capacity match on Friday produce among other heroics, a fight.

Sparks really flew on Super Sunday in Sharjah when Wahab Riaz of Peshawar Zalmi knocked out the stumps of Ahmed Shehzad of Quetta Gladiators who had imperiously despatched the previous delivery for a thundering six into the crowd at midwicket.

TV replays showed Wahab provoking Shehzad by passing on ‘inappropriate’ comments, to which the batsman reacted by colliding into the bowler, crossing a fine line between intense competition and unacceptable behaviour.

Match referee Roshan Mahanama issued a warning and fined both the players for violating clause 2.2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play”.
