High winds halt rowing and tennis

High winds caused the Olympic rowing programme to be postponed on Sunday while play at the tennis was delayed by 90 minutes on outside courts.

Rowing's global governing body World Rowing said a new schedule for the regatta would be released soon as winds buffeted the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

The decision came after competitors complained about conditions on Saturday, when high winds made for choppy waters which led to the capsizing of Serbia's double sculls pair.

Winds gusting up to 25km/h brought delays to the tennis programme inside the Barra Olympic Park.

The scheduled start of play on outside courts was put back by 90 minutes to 1230 local time.
