The third edition of the MKC tournament saw indoor football being included as a women’s sport for the first time. It was won by Murbah from Fujairah.
Led by Shaikha Mubarak, Al Sharqiyah cagers defeated a team from Dubai called Mosh in the final. The victorious Al Sharqiyah basketball team comprised Patricia, Shomma, Bdoor Yousif, Nadiya Mohammed, Nissreen Ali, Asmaa Al Mesmari, Aiya Yousif and Aafaq Abdelrahman.
Al Sharqiyah team comprising Jlena, Sanja, Zinab Talhat, Abeer Rashid, Ameer Abdulah, Latifa Khareeb, Nourah Al Musalimanai and Fatimah Hassan defeated Ajman team to lift the volleyball title.
Captain of the UAE women’s football team Nora Mazrui and Australian coach Cooley were special guests for the women’s games at the MKC tournament.
Al Sharqiyah and Ajman were the two top sides in the competition, according to the head of the women’s games at MKC Hoda Sowaidan. Sharqiyah had a mix of expatriate and locals from Korfakkan, Fujairah and Kalba while Ajman team consisted of mostly Emiratis and was coached by a local Amina Thani.
“We are happy to have this kind of championships because it gives women a chance to display their skills. It is a good opportunity for all women athletes to come together and pit their skills against different nationalities and players from other emirates,” Sowaidan told Emirates 24|7.
“It encourages all to do exercises and do some physical activity,” said Sowaidan who has played a little bit of football.
“We hope to introduce tennis and swimming events in next year’s MKC tournament because women’s sport were popular,” she said.
