DP World ties up with UAE Volleyball Association

“Hopefully it will be the beginning. As more events take place we will be there to be strategic partners with the volleyball association,” said Mohammed Muallem, the Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of DP World UAE at press conference announcing their partnership.

This is not the first time DP World is venturing into sports sponsorship. “We have sponsored Al Ahli, Al Wahda and Al Jazira clubs. Now we are going with a national association in volleyball. Hope we could help in the success of this sport,” he said.

Volleyball association president Amer Ali said the sponsorship would help achieve their programmes. “Our partnership with DP World is very important. It will really motivate the association to do a lot of things, especially since we have our own programme for our senior national team for the future starting with the GCC competition in April. Our aim is to have a very good team to participate in GCC,” said Ali.

Muallem said they came on board after hearing about the future plans of the association. “We care about what sort of programmes are in place. We are happy to hear they are very serious and are aiming for a much better performance going into the future. This altogether makes us proud to be part of the event,” he said.

He also congratulated the women’s national team who won the inaugural GCC championships.

“We know volleyball has potential to become one of the leading activities in our society and we need to support that. The ladies winning the tournament shows there is an attention by the UAE government on all levels plus the (volleyball) association to make this game one of the important and main games in the country. We are hopeful that under the leadership of Amer (Ali) and gentlemen there will be good achievements,” said Muallem

“Our board members are very active. The national team manager has got very good experience and is looking after the team with the help of the general manager. We have head coach Ahmed Zakaria, a former Egypt coach who did a great job there. Also our committee is keen to do lot of things,” said Ali.

“As Amer said when we sponsored the clubs they won the tournament. We hope the same will happen here,” said Muallem.
