National swimmers ready for tilt at World meet

The UAE National swim team sponsored by Speedo is looking forward to setting lifetime best performances and national swim records at the upcoming 10th Fina World Swimming Championships (25m) which starts on Wednesday. 

Under the watchful eye of team coach Jay Benner the team has been making its final preparations for the past two weeks in an intensive training programme in Kuwait, where the athletes have been honing their technique to gain vital seconds in the water.
In total, nine swimmers will be representing the UAE at the World Championships, to be held at the spectacular new Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex on Dubai Bypass Road from December 15 to 19.
“The training has gone well,” said Jay. “We are in our final preparation and starting to rest and fine tune for the championships. The goal for this competition is to be as competitive as possible and we are looking for lifetime best performances along with setting as many UAE National records as possible.” 
He added: “The long term goal of swimming in the UAE is take the sport to the point where the UAE nationals can be competitive at international competitions in the future. Our sponsor Speedo has been supporting the team for the last four years and their support has been critical in achieving what we have achieved today. The team has been training in the perfect environment and using world-class swim training aids, such as Speedo Elite Kick board and Speedo BioFuse Training Fins all recommended by top swimmers such as Michael Phelps.”  
Speaking on behalf of the team, Obaid Al Jesmi captain of the UAE team said: “We have a way to go to achieve the level of success enjoyed by Michael Phelps, but we have many swimmers that are starting to develop and show some great potential. We are fortunate to have the support and partnership with Speedo which has long been the leader in the world of swimming. I am confident that the team will represent UAE well during the competition and put on an outstanding event for the swimming world to enjoy.”
