Canadian driver Pier-Luc Ouellette claimed his second Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals DD2 title at the Al Ain Raceway on Saturday.

Despite losing the lead to Jason Pringle on lap four after starting on pole, stormed back to regain control 11 laps later.

Australian Pringle put pressure on the leader right until the chequered flag as Ouellette held on to win by just 0.066 seconds.

It was the Canadian’s second Rotax Max crown, four years after his first, also in Al Ain.

Estonia’s Georg Vann was elevated to third following a protest above Finland’s Jari Huttunen.

“To win the first one was special, but to come here and regain my title is something amazing and there is no word for that right now,” Ouellette said.

Ouellette had set the pace throughout the weekend.

South African Cristiano Morgado streaked away to victory in the DD2 Masters Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final, finishing almost half a second clear of Danny Brand.

Ukyo Sasahara won the Rotax Max Junior title while Ben Cooper won the Rotax Max Senior title.

Antonio Kekati, Managing Director of Al Ain Raceway said: “Throughout the week we have seen some very competitive racing of a high standard.  The winners on the podium this evening are indeed worthy of their trophies.”

Guy Sheffield, General Manager of Al Ain Raceway said: “It has been a fantastic event this year.  The feedback from the drivers and their teams has been terrific.  They all love the track and the facilities we offer at Al Ain Raceway."
