Royals shine at Derby though queen's horse loses

Britain's royal family is doing better on the fashion front than in their sporting endeavors.

Buoyed by an appearance by Prince William and Kate Middleton — the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — and Prince Harry the royals made dashing appearances at the Epsom Derby horse race.

But Queen Elizabeth II's fond hope of finally winning the classic race were dashed again Saturday when her horse Carlton House came third.

A horse partly owned by Middleton's parents finished farther off the pace.

Despite the losses Middleton impressed fans with her elegant white outfit with a short chiffon skirt and contrasting hat while William and Harry looked dapper in formal gear including black top hats and colorful double-breasted waistcoats.
