The UAE show jumping team won the silver medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou with a stellar performance to finish behind Saudi Arabia.

Following tense moments as a result of a jump off with Hong Kong for the second position, the UAE team comprising Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum, Sheikh Majid Al Qassimi and Ahmad Al Junaibi won the silver. The jump off became necessary with the UAE and Hong Kong tied at 11 points at the end of the second round. Qatar finished fourth.

Young Sheikh Rashid was added to the team in the last minute following the withdrawal of one of the riders originally picked to be part of the team. But the young rider did a commendable job in helping the team win the silver at the Guangzhou Equestrian Venue.
The UAE had won bronze at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.

The show jumping medal follows the silver in double-trap shooting won on Sunday by Sheikh Juma bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum. India’s Ronjan Sodhi won the gold in that event.

The Saudi team led by Prince Abdul Aziz Khalid Al Eid won the gold with a performance that reflected their experience.

The team competitions over, the UAE team members are gearing up for the individual events starting on Wednesday.

The UAE football team also enters the medal hunt on Tuesday.
